I use Outlook Express and one thing really niggles me. Why do most emails arriving go to the top of my inbox but some, not many, go to the bottom to be concealed amongst my old emails? I have to scroll down to find them.
Your email is displayed in a table with columns of information such as "From", "Subject" & "Received" and the contents can be sorted in several ways. It maybe that for some reason the sorting has not worked or that you are sorting by different criteria. You can find messages by re-sorting the columns (clicking the Subject, From, or Sent heads and so on). Click the column heading to reorder the messages for that column. For example, when you click the From column heading, messages are sorted alphabetically by the sender's name, click again and the column will sort in reverse order. You can do this for any column including "Received" – doing this should re-order the email and your most recent emails will appear at the top of the list. If you receive lots of messages, you may find it difficult to work with a full Inbox. Newsgroups, some of which have a high volume of messages, can be difficult to read as well. Outlook Express comes with a set of views that make it easier to work with your mail and news messages. You use these views to see only the messages you want to see. Outlook Express has default views that you can use without having to create custom views. On the View menu, point to Current View, and then click one of the following options:-
- Show All Messages.
- Hide Read Messages.
- Show Downloaded Messages (use only with IMAP and newsgroups).
- Show Replies to my Messages (use only with newsgroups).
- Hide Read or Ignored Messages.
In Outlook Express, you can create customised views to give you the exact view of your messages that you want using the View Manager. Go to the View menu, point to Current View, and then click Define Views, Click New and Select one or more conditions for the view you are creating. You can also choose to arrange Inbox messages by subject. To do this, on the Current View menu, click Group Messages by Conversation. The view you choose for a type of mail or news will stay in effect until you change it.
